ExpoMobile LatAm 2026 · Medellin, Colombia
In July 2026, HK Refurbished Stock joined ExpoMobile LatAm in Medellin, Colombia, Latin America's largest mobile technology fair. Our Director of Business Development, Gabriel Andaluz, took the stage to make an argument that surprised part of the room: for most resellers, the thing limiting growth is not the market and not the price of stock. It is the supplier.
Here is the case he made, and what we do about it.
The argument
Most resellers we meet believe scaling is a sourcing arithmetic problem. Find cheaper stock, widen the margin, grow. The talk argued the opposite: cheaper stock is usually what stops you growing, and the reasons are structural rather than obvious.
Three points went on the screen.
One supplier's Grade A is another supplier's Grade B. There is no industry body defining the terms, so each seller applies them differently, and mostly without bad faith. The category itself is blurry.
The problem appears at scale. Once your volume passes what a single supplier can fill, you are buying from five, eight, ten sources. Each has its own interpretation of the same letter. The lot that lands on your floor is mixed, and the variation becomes your problem the moment you open the box: inconsistent cosmetics, inconsistent function, inconsistent customer reaction.
What we do about it
We publish our grading standard in full rather than asking anyone to trust a letter. A+++ is our only grade. We do not sell Grade B, Grade C, ASIS stock or mixed lots, and the inspection every device passes is written out publicly so you can check it against what arrives.
The invoice is only the first line of what stock costs you.
The full cost is the invoice, plus the units you eventually liquidate below margin, plus the weeks those units sat in your display case not selling, plus the risk you carry when the warranty is fourteen days, or nothing at all.
What you buy cheap often ends up costing more. You just do not see it until three weeks after the stock lands, when the discount stickers come out.
What we do about it
This is the reasoning behind terms most buyers assume they cannot get: a 90 day warranty extendable to 180 days, a 21 day return window, and an IMEI list supplied with every shipment so nothing arrives that cannot be activated. Those terms exist to remove the hidden costs, not as a marketing line.
A device that looks new sells without friction. The customer asks about the battery, you answer, the conversation ends. They compare it to a new phone rather than to a used one, and they buy.
A Grade B unit takes three or four customer visits and often still does not sell. Same capital, very different number of turns. Over a quarter, the difference between stock that turns quickly and stock that lingers is larger than any discount you negotiated at purchase.
That is the case for buying to a single high standard rather than chasing the lowest unit price: nothing to liquidate, faster turns, and a reputation that grows every time a customer opens the box.
The response
For these three obstacles we built one answer.
A product specified precisely enough that losing money on it is difficult. Supply terms that do not cap your volume, meaning as much inventory as you can genuinely move. And a working relationship built on a simple idea: we are not here to sell to a business, we are here to grow ours alongside yours.
In the room, Gabriel walked through exactly how that works: the testing, what we replace, and what we never touch. The short version is on our grading standard page. The longer version is a conversation, and we are glad to have it.
Recognition
During the fair, HK Refurbished Stock received a recognition from the organisers for its support of and contribution to the development of ExpoMobile Colombia over the years, presented in Medellin in July 2026 and signed by founder and CEO Heiner Castrillon.
We value it, and we take it as a reason to keep contributing to the growth of this industry in the region.
Two days of conversations
In a market where everything often seems to come down to price, events like this are a reminder that business is actually built another way: through trust, presence, and relationships that strengthen face to face.
Yessica Gomez, Business Development, HK Refurbished Stock
The refurbished ecosystem in Latin America keeps growing, and the conversations at ExpoMobile made that obvious. Our thanks to the clients, partners, organisers and new contacts we met over those two days.
